PALKULAMMEDU HILL (PALKULAMEDU HILL) | IDUKKI

A exiting hill called palkulamedu or palkullammedu near Idukki with shola covering on one side and grassland on other side. The small perennial poolmakes the hill very special.

About Palkulammedu (Palkulamedu)

Palkulamedu is one of the few lesser known high  peaks of Idukki from where you can have an exciting view of the Idukki Arch dam and its backwaters. This hill is visible from almost all the town near Idukki. He hill extends further north from its peak making its way through the Idukki wildlife sanctuary.

From the top of the hill you can have a beautiful scene of the Periyar River gorge. Another exiting view is the sunset and sunrise view, very spectacular

How to reach

There is a jeep road upto the final peak  of the hill. This road starts from A place called Churali (8 Kms along the Adimaly road from Cheruthony). From Churali move along the tarred road seen to the hill. The road has a steep  ascent to the hill. You may feel as if the road is moving away from the hill but don’t get confused, your path is right. 

The only town on the way is Alparai, a small town with a few shops. After moving for about 6 kms you will reach a junction. Make a left turn from this junction (The road is a steep ascent) and, the other road goes down the hill. Our road is a tarred one with a few houses Cashew nut plantations on either side , which morphs to a untarred jeep road after 3 kilometers. Move further along the untarred road, crossing a few very steep hairpin bends and the high tension electric lines. At last you will reach a flat plateau and from there you can see the peak in front of you, covered with patch of shola and grassland. You can easily make up your way to the top of the peak along the grassland.

From the top you can have a very spectacular view of the Idukki district
