Thanks Mr Rajendran.
I had a plan to make a long note on Kolar when i was at Bangalore. Like the history, like in the mines, milestones an a few things like that.

But unfortunately i am not at Bangalore now. I am out f India. But i hope, i will be able to college those details some day and show it to the world.

I will make a visit to Kolar once i come to Bangalore.

i thank every one who have taken their precious time to updated this wonderful information. I was born and brought up from this lovely place, filled with trees, play grounds, parks, nature beauty and wonderful schools and a place which has historys in it. I am missing this place a lot. I studied in Parkinson/Lindsay memorial school 1978-1987, and did college in FGC.

KGF is my birth place but moved to bangalore now, there is no limitation thinking about childhood days happily spending, its like dream coming true to imagine the fate of town which has ruined, its an history. KGF is paradise on earth once upon a time. Its like a story of children leaving their loved parents in orphanage in their old age. Indian Govt completely neglected growth of city once the Mines closed, hoping one day KGF will be in HISTORY OF INDIA.

Dear Friends

I am planing to start an exclusive website about Kolar soon, I will start collection of data soon and add it.

We will expose to the world, the history and the situations faced by the people of Kolar.
I am collecting data from a few who were living in Kolar.

Thank you
George

John Kinnaird Lindsay, for whom the J K Lindsay Memorial School was named was my great uncle. We share a middle name, Kinnaird, a family name over a number of generations. I recall from childhood many stories of the Kolar Gold Field and of life in India. I live in Scotland and have never been to India and I think it is now too late for me to see the School in use which I regret.
I discovered this site by chance and will return to it again to read more about KGF.

Hi All,
Firstly thanks to George Joseph, amazing site and amazing collection of data. This place has gold in its name as well the people i've come across. I lived 14 yrs of my childhood in KGF, did my studies in St Teresas, my grandpa worked with BGML and dad was with BEML. I owe lots to this london town even a small chat about KGF keeps me very lively. I promise to go back to KGF and give it what it has given to me.

Hemanth Kumar P(dr_hemanth1@rediffmail.com)Dec-26-2009(Sat)
Hi,
I came to KGF when I was two years old in 1972 and stayed in Robertsonpet. I did my primary shooling in St.Teresa's school and studied high school at JK Lindsay memorial between 1983 - 86. I studied PUC at FGC before leaving for higher education. My parents lived there till 2002. Those years are some of the best in my life. When I visited this town and school in June this year at a school get-together, it was really painful to see the condition of the town and the school in particular.(the high school shifted to Parkinson's memorial in Oorgaum ferw years back).
I always wanted to know more about my childhood town. I really appreciate George's effort on this write up on KGF.
I understand that a person of British origin has written a book on KGF.
Mr.Powell, an officer in BEML( he still works there), has apparently recorded the mining procedures/activities.
It would be shame to let the town become a part of history, especially the beautiful mining area. I hope that the prevailing talks of revival of the mines bear fruit and the town will flourish once again.

Siva Sunder M V(sivasunder@rediffmail.com)Dec-27-2009(Sun)
Hi Mr George,
It is so wonderful to be talking about the good old KGF which has seen the best part of my life - MY CHILDHOOD.
My father had worked in BHARAT GOLD MINES LTD as Chief of Corporate Planning and Public Relations andn by this he was instrumental in getting the Mining Centenary Celebrations in place. On this occasion he had brought out a CENTENARY SOUVENIR on behalf of the company. I still remember the effort put pout by him and his editorial staff as they worked their way thru the enormous documents that were contributed by various people. The Souvenir that resulted from their efforts was something that cannot be described but got to be seen. I think it would contribute immensely if you get hold of that Souvenir form the Mines Head office which could give you enough information. I do not think you need to look beyond that. It contains rare pictures as well as history traced right from day 1.
I am now settled in Hyderabad City of Andhra Pradesh State, the adjoining state to Karnataka, the state where these mines are located. My entire schooling was in KGF. Now I am into manufacturing Collated Nail Coils for automated nailing of wooden structures, crates etc. All the best for your purpose. Let me know if you do need anything. In case you need to get any verbal information, you could contact my father Mr Peri Sastry on 91 8819 285210. He would be able to give some insights. He is now 75 yrs old.
Regards,
Siva Sunder,

George,

thank you for all this info you have made available on this site. I am interested in knowing more about a community of WW2 widows who live in the area. It seems there are many who continue to live there - not sure about their present situation however. If you or someone reading this has some info I would love to hear about it.

Thanks!

Hello,

It was so nice to see find this site. I have family that were married in KGM, Oorgaum, India, in the 1890's. I was wandering, if anyone knows, how I could get hold of information regarding churches or schools in the area?

I really want to find out as much information about KGM and Oorgaum, as possible. Do you know how the registration of births, marriages and deaths are carried out there. For example, did they have compulsory registrations.I think that the rest of the family stayed out there and that there may still be family members with our surnames there today.

I would really love to hear from you

Kindest regards
Plymss
