HOW TO SAVE CARDAMOM HILLS

Water Scarcity

Though the climate of Peermade and Kuttikkanam is pleasent throughout the year, these are facing a serious trouble. Each year the average atmospheric temperature at Peermade is increasing. A decade ago the maximum temperature was only 18 C but now it has reached to 25 C. There is a decrease in the amount of rainfall too over the years rendering scarcity of water during summer. The old people says that l few decades ago the winter season was marked mist all around  for whole three months,  and the temperature had reached almost near the freezing point of water and there were rain for more than eight months a year. But now all these has changed.

REASONS

Burning

Over the years there was an increase in the number of people living here near Peermade and Kuttikkanam. As a result forests were cut down and concrete gardens were constructed. The number of vehicles also increased to a very huge amount. Cutting down the trees near Kuttikkanam decreased the amount of rainfall over the years. Even now the illegal cutting of trees from the forests makes the condition further worse. Though the use of plastic which is not biodegradable has been banned the use is so common. I saw many people  dumping plastic wastes all over the shola forests and even burning it at their backyard particularly the inn owners.

Though the government has issued laws controlling the use of plastics none is properly implemented. When you come here I request you to minimize the use of plastic and plastic carry bags. Beautiful carry bags made of jute are available in almost all shops.
